This collection is an odd mix of early material recorded by the Wailers at Jamaica's legendary Studio One. Some of these tracks were produced by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, some by Lee "Scratch" Perry, and some were produced by the Wailers themselves, resulting in a song sequence that feels a little haphazard and random. Of particular interest here, though, is an alternate mix of "African Herbsman" emphasizing the horns and organ, which are much more subdued and embedded in the original mix. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
