East of the Sun It is amazing, first of all, that they could find 50 famous tunes he had not recorded, considering the number of albums Higgins had recorded for Venus. It is also amazing that any group can record 50 tunes successfully in four consecutive days, a feat similar to the two "marathon sessions" by the Miles Davis Quintet which produced four albums for Prestige in the 1950s. This was of course possible because of the combined experience and expertise of the three musicians. Like a spring that never runs out, they turn out one satisfying performance after another. Higgins' elegant phrasing and gentle swing, Leonhart's lyrical bass, and Taylor's rock-solid support combine for a very pleasant listening experience. If you like tasteful piano trio music, you'll love this series! Recorded at Clinton Studio in New York on October 14-17, 2006. Engineered by Troy Haldersoon. Mixed and Mastered by Venus Hyper Magnum Sound: Shuji Kitamura and Tetsuo Hara. ARTISTS: Eddie Higgins (piano) Jay Leonhart (bass) Mark Taylor (drums)
