RElease date: 27-03-2005 (originally released in 1961) 2005 US 8-track vinyl LP edition -The recording is a live date from Chicago in 1961, and Gene is joined by Eddie Buster (org) and Gerald Donovan (d). The proceedings get off to a swinging start with a version of Charlie Parker's SCRAPPLE FROM THE APPLE; all play well (Buster has the quirky mannerism of humming along with his solos, a la Oscar Peterson). The ballad PLEASE SEND ME SOMEONE TO LOVE is given a very bluesy treatment by Ammons, and JUG'S BLUE BLUES is the real deal with Gene delivering a way down-home performance.- Presented in a stickered & sealed picture sleeve.including liner note from Bob Porter. Tracks: 01. Scrapple From The Apple 02. Falling In Love With Love 03. Please Send Me Someone To Love 04. Sweet Georgia Brown 05. It Could Happen To You 06. Foot Tappin' 07. Jug's Blue Blues 08. Fast Track Personnel: Gene Ammons (tenor saxophone); Eddie Buster (organ); Gerald Donovon (drums). This is how many of Gene Ammons's most dedicated fans remember him, in an unpretentious club with an organist and a drummer, burning with a swing that few tenor saxophonists have been able to equal. At home on the south side of Chicago, with an audience that was fully attuned to what he represented in jazz, Ammons here demonstrated why many listeners considered him the major practitioner of blues-oriented, big-toned soul tenor. The organist is Eddie Buster, little known elsewhere but a favorite of Chicagoans who like the emotional content of their music pushed to the fore, with all the stops out. Recorded live at the D.J. Lounge, Chicago, Illinois on August 29, 1961. Includes liner notes by Bob Porter
