2018 EU issue on 180g 2LP= Gorillaz's new studio album entitled The Now Now. The album contains 11 brand new songs from the world's most successful virtual act. The Now Now includes the first single Humility.

Gorillaz produced The Now Now together with James Ford and Remi Kabaka and recorded this completely in Studio 13 in London earlier this year. In contrast to the previous album Humanz (2017), the band mainly avoids collaborations with guest stars on the new work. For their new album, they fall back on their own creative core, with the vocals of 2D, Noodle on guitar, Russel Hobbs on the drum and former Gangreen Gang member Ace on bass guitar as a temporary substitute for Murdoc Niccals.

Gorillaz will also start this summer with an extensive The Now Now Tour, in which they also visit the Netherlands with a show at Lowlands and Belgium at Rock Werchter.

The previous album of the Gorillaz was a bit top heavy by all known guest musicians, reason that the four cartoon characters and their father familias Damon Albarn on The Now Now do almost everything themselves. Almost, because on opening track Humility is actually spotted George Benson, who also audibly associated with this soft funk. The only other guests are Snoop Dogg and house pioneer Jamie Principle, who bring a beautiful ode to Hollywood in the eponymous song. On the other songs the tempo remains surprisingly low, and they seem to have found a new sound, rooted somewhere between Nu-soul and classic deep house. The voice of singer 2-D, as always indistinguishable from Albarn, seems to fit perfectly here and gives the whole a dark edge, with which the threat that often originated from their earlier, harder work also comes back here. Bassist Murdoc may be a cartoon, he is in the box, and has been replaced by Ace, from another cartoon band, The Ganggreen Gang. The story goes on ....
