2011 Music On Vinyl  exclusive limited edition 12-track 2-LP pressed on 180 grams audiophile vinyl -originally released in 1995-Gov't Mule is a southern rock jam band formed in 1994 as an Allman Brothers Band side project by Warren Haynes and Allen Woody. It has a very jam oriented feel to it and was mostly recorded live in the studio with many tracks running into each other. 'Mule' is still a live favorite, and 'Rockin' Horse' was later recorded by The Allman Brothers Band when Warren Haynes rejoined the group for the album 'Hittin' the Note' - presented in sealed & stickered picture sleeve.

While Gov't Mule is spearheaded by ex-Allman Brothers Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, this isn't so much a "jam band" as a power trio. Cream, Mountain, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience provide more accurate points of reference than the Grateful Dead. Not that Gov't Mule isn't interested in improvisational probing. For example, "Trane" explores John Coltrane by way of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. This debut displays a high level of communication, cohesion, and musicianship, indicating this Mule can handle a considerable workload. --Richard Gowen
