2003 German Speakers Corner  Living Stereo pressing on 180g Virgin vinyl -This is the recording that truly established Henry Mancini as both an innovator and a household name. While he had already nabbed an Oscar nomination, this soundtrack to the hit 1959 television series with its jazz score logged ten weeks at the top of the charts and remained a top seller for almost two years. While Blake Edwards' detective show may not have proved an enduring favorite, the music certainly has. Of course, the memorable Peter Gunn theme is the anchor here. The bass and drums interlocking provided hits for artists as diverse as Ray Anthony, Duane Eddy, Deodato and The Art of Noise. Mancini was working with some of the best musicians in the business with special mention going to trumpeter Pete Candoli, saxman Ronnie Lang and pianist Johnny T. Williams, who would later own his own truckload of awards as composer John Williams.

Originally issued on RCA Living Stereo the is another fine re-issue from the Speakers Corner label.

This is not only a great LP but a key piece of jazz and pop music history. Back in 1958 Peter Gunn was one of the unexpected hits of the new television season capturing the imagination of millions of viewers by mixing private eye action with a jazz setting. Composer Henry Mancini was more than fluent in jazz and his music nailed down the popularity of the series. With the main title theme a driving ominous exciting piece of music to lead off the album The Music From Peter Gunn became a huge hit charting extraordinarily high for a television soundtrack and doing so well that RCA Victor came back the next year asking for a second helping More Music From Peter Gunn from Mancini.
