John Coltrane/Milt Jackson
Bags & Trane
1x LP 180 gr. HQ Vinyl
€ 16.50

Release date: 24-09-2010 (originally released in 1959)

2010 EU limited edtion -pressing 180gm audiophile vinyl-Vibraphonist Milt Jackson and tenor saxophonist John Coltrane make for a surprisingly complementary team on this 1959 studio session, their only joint recording. With fine backup by pianist Hank Jones, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Connie Kay, Bags and Trane stretch out on two of Jackson's originals (including "The Late Late Blues") and three standards: a romping "Three Little Words," "The Night We Called It a Day," and the rapid "Be-Bop."-stickered & sealed.

Tracks:
01. Bags & Trane
02. Three Little Words
03. The Night We Called It A Day
04. Be-Bop
05. The Late Late Blues

Artists:
Milt Jackson (vibraphone);
John Coltrane (tenor sax);
Hank Jones (piano);
Paul Chambers (bass);
Connie Kay (drums)

"From the opening duo of 'Bags & Trane' (an original blues by Jackson) through to the out chorus of 'The Late Late Blues' (another blues by Bags), there is scarcely a phrase where the 'other horn' (and the rhythm section, too, for that matter) is not primarily concerned with answering back, or interpreting, or commenting upon, what the other man has had to say -- or in feeding him a provocative statement to which he, in turn, must reply, ever more interestingly, in his own solo to come."
