Release date: 14-30-2005(originally released in 1958) 2005 US 6-track vinyl LP album, reissue of the 1958 6-track vinyl LP album - Riverside session recorded in two "contrasting" moods that both perfectly show his young talents on the trumpet! Side one is a bit more in a hardbop mode - sealed in original picture sleeve. Tracks: 01. Falling In Love With Love 02. I'll Remember April 03. Larue 04. My Old Flame 05. But Beautiful 06. La Villa Excepting the legendary Clifford Brown/Art Blakey collaborations recorded live at Birdland in 1954, Kenny Dorham was first in line of the many memorable Jazz Messengers trumpeters. Performing mostly alongside Hank Mobley, Horace Silver and Doug Watkins, Dorham can be heard on such Messenger classics as Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers and The Jazz Messengers at Café Bohemia Vol. 1, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. This classic all-star track, however, finds Dorham trading off the melody's A and B sections with Sonny Rollins, no less, before each rattles off a blistering solo. A brief Hank Jones solo is followed by a brilliantly conceived and executed melodic turn from Roach. If there is a single imperfect Max Roach solo out there, someone please let the drummers of the world know about it! Musicians: Kenny Dorham (trumpet) Sonny Rollins (tenor sax) Hank Jones (piano) Oscar Pettiford (bass) Max Roach (drums) Composed by Gene de Paul, Patricia Johnston & Don Raye
