Con Alma There's no doubt that Stan Getz was one of the rare species in jazz called "super star" who could draw huge crowds wherever he went to play. The nights he played at Montmartre were sold-out, packed to the extreme limit, and with an extra reason...it was his 50th birthday concert, an appropriate celebration at Europe's most famous jazz club which Stan helped to launch some 30 years ago when he was living in Denmark. Stan Getz, a jazz saxophone player, was known as “The Sound.” His warm, lyrical tone was reminiscent of Lester Young whom he idolized. With his flawless technique, Stan Getz became known for his cool jazz playing but later went on to become a central figure in introducing bossa nova music all around the world. His “Jazz Samba” became an instant hit. Winning the Grammy for Best Jazz Performance in 1963, Stan Getz will always be remembered for his strong melodic sense which can clearly hear on vinyl. Personnel: Stan Getz (tenor sax) Billy Hart (drums) Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (bass) Joanne Brackeen (piano)
