Release date: 03-04-2008 2008 UK 12-track vinyl LP - Uninterrupted by tours, Tapes 'n Tapes enlisted the help of producer Dave Fridmann [Mercury Rev, Mogwai] and started working on their 2nd album; and as a result, 'Walk It Off' is as invigorating & unique as it's predecessor, but with a force and intensity of a young band that came, conquered, grew up and grew some serious balls; with highlights including 'George Michael' with it's shimmering jangly basslines & looped drum crescendos, the pulsating 'Dirty Dirty', the swirling 1st single 'Hang Them All' and more... Tracks: 01. Le Ruse 02. Time Of Songs 03. Hang Them All 04. Headshock 05. Conquest 06. Say Back Something 07. Demon Apple 08. Blunt 09. George Michael 10. Anvil 11. Lines 12. Dirty Dirty This is the Minneapolis-based band's first record since their 2006's widely lauded The Loon which established them as ones to watch. Their signature sound is distinctly their own concoction: shaky vocals, bursts of lo-fi guitars, and haunting keyboard refrains. Jittery rock that's found the sweet spot where experimental song structure meets melodic accessibility To say they bear their alt-rock influences like a badge is an understatement. From the feedback discharge that kicks off the opener "Le Ruse" through the insistent pace of the guitar opus "The Dirty Dirty," Walk It Off is a victorious romp through a rock and roll war zone: a crackling beat, knee-buckling riffs and a bass barrage. With his tickle-in-the-throat voice, singer Josh Grier serves as the catalyst on relentless rockers like "Demon Apple" and "Hang Them All," and the dark ballad "Lines." The band finds its collective stride on the poppier "Conquest" and the eighties-tinted "George Michael," both of which recall the exploratory musicianship of their acclaimed debut, The Loon, and challenge the notion that most bands go through a sophomore slump. Not this band. --Scott Holter - Amazon.com
