Yasuhiro Ozu Critical consensus is placing Vigil in the company of pop craftsmen like Nicolai, Bacharach, Jobim, Lai, Legrand or Umiliani and genre-stradling innovators as Fox, Barry, Esquivel or Schifrin. If you need a proof, just check this brilliantly conceived album that explores the soundscapes of the sixties and seventies but in a unique conceptual context. "Exquisita decadencia" is the musical equivalent to a turtle soup: both delicate and intense taste, fine flavour and outstanding nutrition facts. Served with a shot of Spanish sherry. Beautifully packaged this heartfelt record is a listening must for the intrepid and cosmopolitan record buyers. Think of the perfect present for Telly Savalas, Barbarella, Dudley Moore, Baden Powell, Riz Ortolani, Lee Remick or Hugo Montenegro. ;br:The new album continues in the same vein as "Musica para hacer la digestion" -first (siesta 78)- but with a deeper cinematic feel and more exotic cream. Vigil cleverly offered songs as cups of camomile in his first digestive record: a blend of bossa nova, rififi music and cinema nostalgia with a lush but clear production. Now in this sequel our mastermind invites you to an uneven banquet of sounds: jazzy nocturns, velvet summer instrumentals, bouncy spy and action films atmospheres, loungy TV commercials, gentle and relaxing suites, and great orchestral grandeur scores for a parlour of sybarites. Vigil is a classic without the obligation of wearing a tuxedo. Pedro Vigil displayed his mastery in Penelope Trip in the nineties and formed Edwin Moses (close to the verge of the century) to satisfy his funky appetite. Exquisita decadencia was recorded in Gijon (Spain) ODDS with the assistance of Paco Loco and ORANGE. There was a visit to Ramon Leal's studio in Madrid too. A carnival of talented musicians contributed to the sessions. The palette of sounds is amazing: cocktail a-go-go tunes (Teisco del Rey), smooth and festive bossa nova (Chasco Fiesta), the opening track for a black and white film with supersuave secret agents (Secret Cinema), vintage piano/elegant fashion party (Agua Mineral), music to lie in the grass and watch clouds (Graceland), a song for the devotees of leopard skins (Fantasia), a dance hit (Aristocracia), Beach soccer scenes in Brazil (Escola de futebol), a carrousel of auto races, go-carts and crashes (Silverstone), a track for bubblebaths/love scenes (Desayuno Continental), exotica & lounge (Meditacion trascendental) and a cinematic frenzy (Yasuhiro Ozu). The whole album is permeated with the insane attention to detail and Vigil's imagination and humour. Most of the songs deserve a celluloid life. To have the chastening experience of being taught lessons in pop music excellence by a Spanishman is a pleasure.
