2019 EU issue (180g vinyl 2LP )
Recorded in front of an enthusiastic audience in the Philharmonie in Cologne and carried by the celebrated 18-member WDR Big Band under the direction of its chief conductor Bob Mintzer (the well-known tenor saxophonist, longtime member of the Yellowjackets and leader of his own Grammy-winning Bob Mintzer Big Band ), Laurance reinvents some of his earlier recorded pieces, but in a much larger style.
“I always imagined these compositions to be for an orchestra. It's a rare chance to hear your own music played by an ensemble of this caliber, ”said Laurance. In a way, this recording is an extension of Snarky Puppy's orchestral collaboration with the Dutch metropolis Orkest. With its film musical accents, surprises and unexpected twists, the album Live at the Philharmonie, Cologne is undoubtedly Laurance's most daring project so far.
